Ryan smiled as Vink's warm hands slid onto his, and his smiled faded as he felt her trembling.

'Vink?'

The Blank slid onto the lounge next to him, her form slipping back towards her natural state, details of her complexion slipping away, her eyes becoming even more prominent.

He scanned quickly for enemies, and saw only gala guests. 'What happened?'

'Code Shyla.'

'I don't understand.'

So I've been struck speechless. . .

Seriously, I've been sitting here with this page open for at least 5 minutes now while I tried to figure out what to say.

It is my honor to inform you that Require: Cookie has been nominated by our very own Meeks for the 2012 Rose and Bay award in Fiction.

From the award site:
Voting is now open for the Fiction category of the Rose and Bay Awards. These awards honor excellence in cyberfunded creativity (aka crowdfunding), and this category recognizes superlative writing in the field of fiction.

I think it would be awesome if we could band together to make this the first of many awards that Stormy will earn from the MV.

Clarke's voice, so he didn't bother to turn around.

Curt sipped at his drink, and looked down at the dance floor, at Stef dancing with Ryan, some level of happiness breaking through the hardened morose shell.

'O'Connor.'

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Clarke lean against the railing beside him. 'Noeil.'

'Huh?' he asked without turning his head.

'Noeil,' Clarke said again. 'The woman I loved, that was her name.'

He pulled his phone from his hand and stared at it.

'Damn it recruit, listen to me.'

The crown fell.

It hit the floor and shattered like spun candy.

They were ushered out in shame by guards in nifty uniforms and sharp-looking ceremonial weapons. The guests who wore clothes emulating Agency uniforms jeered at them as they passed.

It was all over the fairy net five minutes later.

They split up, each going their own way, and she let Curt drag her back to his apartment. The news items buzzed on his phone until she fell asleep in his arms.

Every so often there's the kernel of a good idea wrapped in a tortilla of very poorly-executed concepts - such was the was the case of Mirrorfall.

The new version shall be sleeker, and more importantly...sexier.

‘Of course I’m fidgeting!’ Stef whispered. ‘Everyone is looking at me.’

‘Slash-serious doesn’t cover fidgets?’

‘The word fidget is losing all meaning.’

Curt smirked. ‘It lost it five minutes ago. Fidget. Fidget. Fidget.’

‘Gah!’ she said quietly.

‘Just smile, and relax.’

She forced a smile.

‘Ok, maybe don’t smile.’

She glared at him, and leaned against his arm, then looked left at Ryan. ‘Aren’t you going to tell me not to slouch?’

‘It’s your gala, young lady, you can slouch in front of royalty if you want.’

50 - A Short Interlude

There was a crowd clustered around a small pond. Fairies and fae in fancy dress sat comfortably on the soft grass, on small chairs - or on friends for those who had come with nymphs - all watching the dance taking place in and on the water. Mermaids and water nymphs cavorted, water towering high into the air, forming shapes and tubes, suspending the mermaids ten feet or more off the ground, before bringing them back down.
