The Word-of-Link Campaign

Proposal
For 15 Points, I will write you a MV story.
Ok, the other day, we had 207 guests on the site – this was pretty awesome, unfortunately, the majority of them were spambots/robots/whatnot, not actual people joining in on the fun. Having 207 (real) guests on a regular basis would be sort of awesome, so to that end, it’s time we started doing a little advertising, and not just me buying Project Wonderful ads.
But since I’m asking you to take time our your day and help me out, we’ve decided to implement a rewards system, one that rewards you, and by extension, the rest of the crazies here.
Earn fifteen points (explained below), and I’ll write a short story of your choice. Now...there are some restrictions on this, obviously. Examples of things I won’t accept as requests:
*Write me the last chapter of MS/GE/MC/MR/MW.
*Write me a summary of MC/MR/MW.
*Explain X – where X is a spoilery plot-point that will be covered in great detail later.
Example of things I WILL write:
*...pretty much anything else.
I won’t write out-and-out erotica, so X-rated Taylor/Grigori fic is out, though if you wanted some hot flashbacks, I could do that.
I’m happy to write about any of the secondary cast (e.g. MORE HUMMER STORIES or “What’s Death like on a normal day?” or “Does Madhe go shopping”) anything like that, or any of the main cast, if it isn’t something I’ve already covered (don’t want you feeling cheated).
I WILL write crack if that’s what you want, but go reread the first few RA chapters before requesting crack, I have a specific style of doing weird stuff...and that’s basically to write as close to canon as I can so that the weird elements stick out more. (And yes, I will be writing more RA stuff, I promise).
If you can’t think of something specific, just pick a favorite department (tech/field/combat) or a character, and I’ll go nuts from there.
Any questions, ask below.
How to Earn Points
5 Points – Posting a review on Web Fiction Guide (http://www.webfictionguide.com)
5 Points – Posting a review on Muse’s Success (http://www.muses-success.info)
(Yes, you can copy-and-paste reviews, but they must be of a decent length, not one or two sentences).
1 Point – linking us on a forum
1 Point – linking us on Facebook/MySpace/other social networking space
(Linking policy: don’t just spam the link. Link us somewhere that you’re active, or at least, not someone with five posts or under, and please put it in an appropriate place).
1 Point – getting someone to follow the Facebook page
1 Point – getting someone to join the site
+1 Point if they make a post in the people forum
(People policy: don’t just grab a random friend, have it be someone who at least has the potential to be interested in what we do. :) )
Other Points – I’m trying to make this simple, but if there’s something blindingly obvious that you feel I’ve left out, you can suggest it below).
But Stormy, can’t I just buy your love (and story)?
Sure, there’s a donation box right there on the left. $2 a point sounds fair (since it’s so much easier to do the stuff above), and any money raised, as always, will go towards site costs, and advertising (primarily advertising).
Hey, wait a second, isn’t “One day Stef ate a cookie” a complete story? What exactly am I getting?
For your 15 points, you are guaranteed a story of at least 1000 words. Some will be longer, of course, depending on what the content is/how I’m feeling that day/if I like the character, but what you’re working for is a guaranteed 1000 words.
What if I get extra points?
It depends on you. You can work towards another complete story, you can buy the points to earn another story, or you can add your points onto the current story. Say you wind up with 18 points, because you linked us in a bunch of places, or more of your friends joined our Facebook than you expected, you can add those extra three points onto your existing story, and buy another 300 words.
Basically 1 extra point = 100 extra words.
However, you can’t be clever, and work up a whole bunch of points and demand your 1000 words + 20 extra points worth of words in the same story, to get yourself a 3000-word story. I will make this face at you: -_- and be cranky. Also, you will end up with characters called The Honourable Sir Alan the Ferocious, Slayer of King Fend and Defender of the One Truth, who are called by their fu name and title set each time they appear.
Plus, depending on the story, it might reach 3000 words anyway, it just depends on my brain.
When do I get my story?
After you earn your points, and after I write it. All stories will be written, none will be artificially pushed back to make room for other stuff, though they may not necessarily get written in the order they were requested (again, because some days I feel like writing A, while other days I feel like writing B, hence at the moment why you’re getting MS and GE at random intervals).
How will you know what I do?
Elementary, you’re going to report it here. Link to where you’ve linked us, or name those you’ve inspired to joining the FB/site, and your points will be marked down.
excellent idea. It gets those of us who aren't already promoting to do so more often. XD
spot on.
...it's a good idea, not a stupid idea. -_-
Reality is a formality.
Great, now I just have to steal everyone's points and get the most awesome Birdy story EVER!
Hey you, ya you over there, reach for the sky pilgrim.
It's weird, but everytime I heard "reach for the sky" my brain immediately goes to Woody from Toy Story, not John Wayne (but then again, my favourite John Wayne movie is Hartari! so I'm probably in the minority).
AND NO STEALING POINTS, PLAY NICE!
Reality is a formality.
Now I suppose I really should get around to posting the link in a couple of the places I've thought about before. I'm just so easily distracted I OOH Shiny!
What was I saying?
SQUIRREL!
Reality is a formality.
. . .Squirrel is that I used to know someone who went by the callsign of Rabid Squirrel at Battletech, and so I see a squirrel my first instinct is to shoot it. That or start singing the theme song to "The Cliffy and Squirrely Show"
Wow, I am crazy.
Back on topic I have linked here in 1 forum so far and I plan on writing a review on TopWebfiction.com sometime tonight.
For anyone that wants to see my wonderful description of this site, feel free to head over to Midnight Sonata and check it out. < /shameless plug >
are going to hate me for this. :)
They already call me a drug dealer for getting them hooked on various graphic novels and tv series (and a couple of webnovels, let's be fair). And, apart from Firefly (much as I love Mirrorverse, no force in the 'verse can stop Firefly ^_^), this site is quite possibly the most addicting thing I could recommend, and no-one will get their coursework done :)
Of course, then I can laugh at them. :D
There's no place I can be, since I found Serenity.
are going to hate me for this. :)
Yes, but then they'll love you for it.
no force in the 'verse can stop Firefly ^_^
...would never argue that. ^_^
this site is quite possibly the most addicting thing I could recommend, and no-one will get their coursework done :)
Yeah, but once they sit up unti 3am a few times getting the archive out of the way, they'll be ok, and be able to focus on their coursework. :P
Reality is a formality.
Yup. Time to start pimping Mirrorfall out on TVTropes.
There's the very beginnings of a page here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Mirrorfall if that's of any help.

I found the site through a Project Wonderful ad originally, which was located on another webnovel-type-thing, Tales of MU by Alexandra Erin.
Now, my purpose here is not to promote her, she has a pretty large fanbase as these things go and she is strongly in support of independent/alternative publishing methods so she might be willing to link you and would at the very least offer advertising advice.
I wouldn't be surprised if she was already familiar with, and fond of, your work but I honestly haven't a clue.
Anyway, that is all I can think of to help, not really active anywhere online and I only have one friend who listens to my suggestions about these things; she doesn't listen to them anymore because I've suggested far too many things.
Email her and hope for the best I guess? I'm a terrible helper.
Nono, that's a good tip! Tales of MU is another web-novel (series of stories?) that I'm fond of, and I've heard the author is (authors are?) nice. You should see if they can help you, Stormy. ^__^ Good idea Abeo!
Lexy Erin. Updates a crazy amount, and has done so for a few years now.
Is (or was, not sure about her current circumstances) about the only serial author making enough money to live off her work. (Though I will manage it one day soon as well :P).

...advertising on ToMU, haven't been doing it as much lately, because I've been swamped with bills since the move and haven't had money for frivolities like advertising. :P
She doesn't exactly have a links page on the ToMU site, since she makes a good percentage of her income out of the adspace, it's counter-productive to link people for free. (But now that I'm thinking about it, I might go chuck $5 into my PW account and throw up some ads).
I wouldn't be surprised if she was already familiar with, and fond of, your work but I honestly haven't a clue.
I don't assume that anyone knows who I am, or reads my work. >_> I mean, by the amount of times that I've advertised with her, I'm sure she recognises me, but reading's another thing.
not really active anywhere online
See, this is *my* problem. I basically spend my free time either writing for or thinking about the MV, so I don't really get a chance to be active anywhere (combine that with my innate tendency to lurk, rather than take part, and anxiety, and pretty much the only place where I have a recogniseable voice is here -_-).
I'm a terrible helper.
That's ok, I'm a terrible writer, we even out. :P
Reality is a formality.
...my sister asked me to give you a message.
Begin message:
*spoonwhap*
End message.
Regards,
Hammermeister
...that I have taken my beating, and will pay further pennance by not having any cookies for a week. :P
Reality is a formality.
^_^
AL13N is my name and head-biting is my game.
topwebfiction.com needs a banner pic for the link.
...make up a new one (since I don't really like the small banner I have) later and submit it then. :)
Reality is a formality.
...I am really curious now as to The Story of The Honourable Sir Alan the Ferocious, Slayer of King Fend and Defender of the One Truth. ^__^
